PVAPolymaker
PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) is a water-soluble support material that is typically processed as a secondary material using a dual-extruder 3D printer. The Chinese premium filament manufacturer Polymaker has developed a particularly high-quality PVA filament that works exceptionally well in combination with PLA, TPU, PVB (PolySmooth), and even nylon (PA) filaments. PolyDissolve S1 offers greater design freedom. Complex models and geometries that were previously impossible can now be realized with this PVA filament. The support structures do not need to be removed manually; instead, they dissolve completely without leaving any residue when placed in tap water. The wash water can then be poured into any drain connected to a sewage treatment plant. Since PVA is water-soluble, the printing material must be stored in a dry environment. Humidity can degrade the filament, rendering it unprintable. Therefore, we recommend a Polymaker Polybox for proper storage. PVA filaments are frequently used for 3D prints with complex geometries that require a flawless surface finish. The filament is therefore frequently used for design prototypes and display pieces. In particular, architectural models or complex representations in mechanical engineering are often difficult and complicated to produce using FDM 3D printing. Home users also utilize the material for detailed figures or models. PVA greatly simplifies post-processing and enables the creation of parts that would not have been possible before. Note: In February 2022, Polymaker began transitioning all filaments to cardboard spools. This transition will take place gradually over an extended period. Both the manufacturer and we as a retailer will, of course, first sell off existing stock before the new spools become available. The filament itself remains unchanged by this transition; it is merely a change in packaging, as well as a new EAN and SKU number.
